Website Design Philosophy
|
Think for a moment about the websites you visit
the most on the internet. Chances are you return to sites that contain
a great deal of information or at least, are updated frequently with
new information. |
No matter how much fun multimedia content and
flash animation can be, they have a tendency to become annoying and
counter-productive when they are part of a website's front end. |
There are two different types of websites. |
Some business, organizations, and individuals
need a website to introduce someone to who or what they are. A
business with no interest in internet commerce needs simply a page
that gives basic information on what they offer, how they can be
reached, and why a potential customer should choose them. They simply
want anyone who is searching for their services on the internet to be
able to find them in the real world. There is no real reason to visit
the site more than once. |
Sites that keep people coming back have at least
one reason for repeated visits. Usually they either have a great deal
of content, or the content they provide is frequently updated, or
both. |
Graphic design and special effects are most
important for a first visit. Navigational design and clarity of
purpose are always important. Content production and update are
perhaps most important and usually most labor-intensive. |
Beyond all the bells and whistles, typically,
good websites have good text. |
